My tips of the day for Adsense newbies.

#1 Don’t try to start a blog or site on high paying keywords just because they’re high paying keywords. You will waste your time building a Mesothelioma, Acai Berry Diet or DUI Lawyer site and you will not earn much from it before you lose interest because you know nothing about Mesothelioma.

Find a topic that you know something about, or you’re an expert at, and base your site around that. This will keep your interest a lot longer and you’ll probably come up with some original content and ideas. This is what you need to establish before you can start earning. (And my personal experience has taught me to stay away from blogs as they don’t generally do well with Adsense.)

#2 Know your keywords. Make sure your pages have the targeted keywords in the Title Tag, meta description, H1,H2,H3 tags. Don’t stuff your content with your keywords, but make sure they’re in there.

#3 Find a way to get your site 10 backlinks per day…using your keywords as anchors. Submit to free directories, social bookmarking, blog commenting. There are endless sources for free links…find them. If you’ve picked a niche that doesn’t have insane competition, you’ll start to notice some good search engine rankings for your keywords within 8-12 weeks. I realize this may sound more like SEO than Adsense help, but if you want to drive targeted traffic to your site, and increase your clicks & earnings, the above methods are absolutely mandatory.

Just a side note…a lot of people don’t believe in directory submission anymore, but I still build directory links for every site I create. I don’t expect to get much PR value, but every backlink with your anchor text (even nofollow) have some benefit.

Review sites are a GREAT way to boost your affiliate marketing efforts. They provide good quality content that the search engines just eat up, as well as giving your prospective purchasers valuable information to assist them with making difficult buying decisions. The WordPress Review Sites Plugin is an invaluable way to create, fast, high-quality review sites using the WordPress platform, while allowing you the flexibility to enter links to your current affiliate products. If you’re looking to promote an affiliate product via organic search engine traffic, a review site is the absolute best way to get top SERPS without worrying about content creation…because your visitors do that for you. Sounds cool right…that’s because it is!

Chances are you’ve seen some of Unique Blog Designs templates floating around the web. They’ve been making some of the more popular blog and e-commerce templates for a while now, but they’ve recently ventured into the world of affiliate themes and let me tell you…THESE THINGS ARE COOL. I’ve been using them for a little over a month, and I’m extremely impressed.

UBD’s Affiliate Themes let you set up affiliate sites quickly and efficiently using WordPress. Once you download the plugin and upload it to your existing WordPress site, you can instantly create content that include your affiliate links and produce high quality, and high converting landing pages for your affiliate site. It’s absolutely perfect for dating, ringtone, & weightloss offers where you need to create multiple landing page variations for testing. Here are just a couple of the pages you can create almost instantly.

The themes can be fully customized with colors and layouts as well as graphics and header images. The 6 layouts are SEO and PPC optimized to keep you in the good graces of the search engines, and keep the targeted traffic flowing to your pages.

What I probably love the most is that you don’t even have to dig into the code. I get so sick of having to tweak css code to make things look the way I want, and with these themes, it’s completely handled at the control panel, 100%. The themes are very clean, and streamlined, which I personally like. I don’t know anyone who’s ever done well with cluttered, bulky landing pages.

You will absolutely benefit from the affiliate themes plug in and not only will it help jumpstart some of those PPC campaigns you just couldn’t get to convert, but it’s absolutely perfect if you’re also trying to get organic search engine traffic, because it’s coded to be completely SEO friendly so the big “G” won’t slam you because you look like an “Affiliate Site”.

If you need to create fast affiliate sites and pages that will start converting immediately, then the Unique Blog Designs affiliate templates are exactly what you need. You can’t beat the price at $97 bucks…and you’ll probably make that back in less than a day with the time you save and the profits your new pages generate.

Give the themes a try today at Unique Blog Designs Affiliate Themes.

Here’s the deal. I’ve been using the Shoemoney Tools for a good 6 months now and all I can say is that if you are serious about your SEO and PPC work, and you’re using some of the half ass free tools out there on the web, then you’re probably losing hundreds of dollars a month.

How much more productive could you be, and how much more cash would you earn each month if you had access to the absolute best set of tools for online marketing? These are just some of the invaluable tools I use on a daily basis:

In Depth Backlink Analyzer – See where you’re backlinks are coming from, including the anchor text used to link.

Backlink Finder – Find niche related sites where you can potentially gain valuable backlinks.

Related Blog Posts – Discover blog posts related to your niche. Pick up links via trackback and commenting.

Top Notch PPC Campaign Builder – Create keyword lists, ads, and campaigns and import them directly into your Adwords, Yahoo & MSN campaigns.

Keyword Grabber – Find all of the keywords being bid on by any domain. This inside knowledge will give you the competitive edge on your PPC campaigns.

Adsense Crawler – Find sites on the Google content network where you can get top ad spots cheap.

…and these are just for starters.

So this is the part where I hook you up. I have 20 Promo Codes to dish out. This will get you access to the best internet marketing tools on the planet, Shoemoney Tools, at a ridiculous savings.

You get to try out all the tools I mentioned above…plus more for 9 days and it will only cost you $3.95, plus you’ll save another $20/month because you’ll only pay $79.95 a month (instead of the normal $99.95). Hell, I’m still paying the $99.95 a month, so you’re getting a better deal than I did.

I know you’re thinking that’s a lot of coin..but wait until you try the tools out for a few days. You’ll wonder how you ever lived without them and watch your productivity & your income increase immediately. If you don’t like the tools for whatever reason, you can cancel your subscription at any time, but trust me, you’ll like them.

Just enter your name and email in the form below to get access to the Promo Code. If you’re tired of earning pennies a day with Adsense and your other affiliate programs, put your name in the box and sign up for Shoemoney Tools today.

I thought the iPhone was cool at first, but now it’s just goddamn annoying. It’s close to being thrown out of my vehicle…at high speeds & here’s why.

iPhone U-Connect – The iphone bluetooth won’t sync with my U-Connect hands free system in my Dodge Ram. Why? What’s the problem? They’re both bluetooth systems. The iphone pairs with my Jawbone..well sometimes. And I’ve read that it has issues connecting with other handsfree systems. Hell, if Apple made a handsfree system for the car, it probably wouldn’t connect to that either.

iPhone & Mac – Both of these electronic devices are made by Apple correct? So why, once again, is bluetooth compatibility such a frickin issue. I can’t pair my Mac & iphone to do anything. iPhone bluetooth won’t send or receive files…so what’s the point. I could do it with my Blackberry, which isn’t made by Apple, so why can’t I send files between to Apple made products? Because they suck that’s why.

Quicktime – Quicktime is an Apple made product right. iPhone has Quicktime as it’s default movie playing application, but if someone sends you a Quicktime movie as an email attachement, there’s no way in hell you’ll get to play it because the iPhone will say that it’s not a compatible movie type. Another instance of incompatibility between products from the SAME DAMN COMPANY!

Network Loss – I lose connection to the network probably 5 times a day…in areas that I know should be connected. The only way to re-connect is to shut the phone down and reboot. Sounds like a PC if you ask me. This is one of the more annoying traits of the iPhone.

Inability to Save Email Attachments – Someone sends you a Word document as an email attachment. Sure you can read it on the iphone, but you can’t save it as a file to a folder. Why? What possible harm could one do by saving an email attachment as an individual file somewhere on the iPhone?

Apple talks about giving their users freedom to share information, music, movies, and access to anything and everything, but in realilty, Apple is so scared that you’re going to find a way to steal, modify or improperly use this information that they handcuff you from being able to do anything useful with the iPhone. It’s purely eye-candy and they’ve tricked millions into thinking it’s something they have to have. I’ll admit…I thought it was cool and I got one…but it will find it’s way on Ebay or in the trash soon. I’ll go back to my old Blackberry which can actually provide functionality, not just fluff!

I got to thinking back about some of the websites I’ve designed and built in the past 10 years, and I can honestly say that probably 75% of the just plain sucked. Bad layouts & navigation, bad ideas, even worse SEO (if not non-existant SEO) and just all sorts of dumbness. It’s funny becasue at the time I was making them, any particular site seemed like the best work I’d ever done, and it was destined to be a HUGE success. Unfortunately, the majority were flops…but that’s the important part.

You learn so much more from the ideas that stink and never get off the ground, than you do from the ones that are successful. By this I mean that when something just doesn’t work, it’s often much easier to figure out why it failed compared to when a project takes off and is a resounding success. Tweak here, tweak there, research a little more, change this, and the next project that comes around will be better if nothing for the fact that you’ve probably honed your skill set and are smarter for it. Personally, I laugh hardest at some of my attempts at graphics and art work. My Photoshop skills were almost non-existent until a couple years ago, but I thought my headers and images kicked serious ass….boy was I wrong.

Remember, what you think is your best work ever, will probably be in the “What was I thinking” pile a few years from now. Guess what ? It’s because you more skilled than you once were…and that’s exactly where you want to be.

Ok, We all know that the only real way to increase a site’s popularity is through link building. Most of the time these links can be in the form of directory submissions, link exchange, blog commenting, or good old fashioned natural links that occur when people actually find enough value in their site to give you a link on theirs.

Obviously naturally built links the preferable method to get high quality links and traffic to your site, but let’s face it, every web idea you have isn’t going to go viral from the get go! And most of the time you’ll have to give your site a little nudge to get things going. If you can get some decent search engine rankings for a few keywords, that should help get the ball rolling, and hopefully, if you have a site that isn’t complete junk, and you offer your visitors a useful service, product or information, the natural link building will commence.

So the million dollar question…how many links do I need to get decent search engine rankings so I can get my site seen, and everyone will love it and we all live happily ever after? The answer is, there is no answer. I recommend getting links anywhere and everywhere you can at first, but MAKE SURE THEY’RE QUALITY LINKS. Don’t go crazy with 5000 directory submissions a day, but if you build a few hundred links a week, and can keep that consistency, for a couple months, you’ll start to your SERP’s improve.

The whole idea here is to get your site out into the world, get it seen, and have people start giving you natural links so you don’t have to rely on search engine traffic. If your site has some value to it, people will want to link to it naturally. Strive to get traffic outside of organic search traffic and watch your traffic explode.

I’m hoping that this post will help others in the future because I found it extremely frustrating that there are no decent instructions out there about how to transfer a domain you registered with Google (most likely when you signed up for a Blogger account) over to another Registrar. This process takes a few steps and will more than likely take you a couple days to finish, but stay with me and we’ll get through it together.

The first thing you will need to do is have an account at a registrar where you want your Google domain to be transferred to. I’ve been using GoDaddy.com forever, and I’ve never had any issues with them, so if I can give a plug to any hosing company, GoDaddy is the one. I believe it’s only $7.00 to transfer a domain name, and you get an additional year of registration for free.

Now that you have your account set up there, log in and go to the top “Domains” dropdown tab and select “Transfer Domains to GoDaddy”. Type the domain name you wish to transfer from Google in the box and select “Go”. If the domain name is available for transfer, click “Proceed to Checkout”. Continue through the checkout process and pay for the transfer. You will receive several emails from GoDaddy, one of which will contain transfer codes for your domain, so don’t trash these!

In the next step, you have to get into it with the nice folks over at Google. When you buy a domain name through the big “G”, your domain name is actually being hosted by Enom.com or GoDaddy.com (Yeah, go figure), but for some reason it’s extremely difficult to get access to your own domain name.

Proceed to the Google Apps page here…http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/index.html

Click on “Returning User Sign In” in the upper right. Enter the domain name that we’re trying to tranfer and click GO. This should log you into your domain management control panel. If you are asked to log in again, just log in with your domain username and password (Hopefully you remember this).

Click on the “Manage this Domain” text in the upper right. On this page, click on “Domain Names” in the upper left section of the page. Doesn’t it seem like we’ve clicked “domain names” about a thousand times already?

Finally…you are now looking at the domain settings for your Google domain. In the Primary Domain section, see the link for Advanced DNS settings..Click that. You will now see

To change Advanced DNS settings, sign in to your DNS console
with the following information :

Domain : domainX.com
Password : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
eNom customer service email : GoogleClients@enom.com or GoogleClients@godaddy.com

Write this password down, because you’re going to need it when you email Google for your “Authorization Code”. Send an email to the address you see on the screen above, it could be either of those addresses shown. Tell them you are the owner of www.YourDomain.com and you need the authorization code to transfer your domain to a new registrar. Write in the password show above also. This will be all they need to unlock your domain, and email the transfer code to you. It may take a few hours to a day to get the email.

Once you do, copy the Authorization Code and go back into your GoDaddy.com account and go to the “My Domains” tab where you can manage your domain names. In the upper left, you will see another 4 tabs that read “Domain Names” | “Buy/Sell” | “Tools” | “Help”. Roll over the “Domain Names” tab and select “Pending Transfers” from the dropdown list. You should now see the domain name you are trying to transfer. Click the checkbox next to the domain name and on the left portion of the page you will see an “Authorization” button. Roll over Authorize and select “Begin Transfer Authorization”. Find that email GoDaddy sent you before, which contains a Transfer ID & Security Code and enter those numbers into the appropriate boxes which should now be showing. Click “Next” and select that it is ok to transfer. Now enter the holy Google Authorization you were emailed. You should now be seeing a message that says “Accept Transfer at Current Registrar”. That’s it, it’s now out of your hands. Hopefully within the next 1-5 days, someone over at Google domains will press the button to finalize the transfer into your GoDaddy.com account. Once it’s been transferred, it will show in your “My Domains” section of your account, and you’re free to change DNS NameServers, forward it, or any of the other features.

Now doesn’t it feel good to be free and have control over your own domains? I thought so. Thanks for reading.
